Supply of Customised Pellets, Grain Mixes, Protein Meals, Almond Hulls, Hay and Straw
We offer a broad range of stock feeds to suit all feeding systems and situations. Our Grain Mixes and Pellets can be customised to suit any particular feeding system or market.
All products within our Stock feed range can be purchased on a spot basis or locked in on a supply contract.
Ration Formulation
Our Ration Formulation service will ensure your feeding program is balanced to meet the nutritional requirements of your livestock. Rations are formulated to maximise weight gain as economically efficiently as possible and take into account target market and available feeding infrastructure.
Utilising home grown fodder in conjunction with any required supplements, we can assist in formulating rations for feeding through self feeders, trail feeding or TMR.
Formulations can be compliant with pasture fed programs, short-fed domestic feeding, long-fed for export or specialist production such as Wagyu.
Delivery Service
McKenzie Ag Services has a dynamic and flexible delivery service. From Bulka Bags to Road Trains, we can deliver your feed requirements regardless of weight or packaging.
Our flat-top B Double Hay Trailers can load up to 64 bales of Hay or Straw. Our Crushed Grain Mixes or Pellets can be delivered in bulk tippers, blown into silos or feeders, or delivered via a truck mounted auger.
Value Adding to Homebred Calves or Lambs
Depending upon the value of prime stock comparative to store stock, it can often be lucrative to finish your calves or lambs rather than selling them as stores. This enables you to (a) target a specific market at a specific time rather than selling as your livestock as stores, and (b) maximise your return. It is often thought that finishing livestock is too costly in terms of the infrastructure required and the cost of feed.
We can advise on a simple system whereby a specifically formulated feed ration is delivered directly into self feeders to finish your stock. This simple system negates the requirement for silos, augers, roller-mills, mixer wagons, feed bunks etc. With the increasing demand for certified pasture fed (Farm Assurance, PCAS etc) livestock, this feeding system is becoming increasingly popular as it enables cattle to be finished in a paddock environment, rather than locked up in a feed pen.
Opportunity Feeding
With the availability of customised Grain Mixes and Pellets there are often opportunities to purchase store cattle and finish them for the prime market with very little capital outlay or additional labour.
McKenzie Ag Services can assist with budgeting/forecasting the result from an intensive feeding program. When the feed price, livestock purchase price and sales price is locked in, the only variable is the growth rates/performance from the feeding program.
Our system enables you to finish livestock with confidence of the financial result prior to the program commencing, and with very little capital outlay or workload.
Feeding Infrastructure & Design
McKenzie Ag Services can assist you with the plan and design of your intensive feeding system. From NFAS accredited feedlot design through to on-farm opportunity feeding systems, we have the knowledge and experience to assist you in the development of a new facility, or planning a suitable site for opportunity feeding or value adding home bred livestock. Correct stocking rate, bunk/feeder and water trough placement, fencing, laneways, weighing and scanning systems etc are critical for any feeding system, regardless of size. McKenzie Ag Services has extensive experience in this regard.
After years of trying all sorts of hay rings, square bale feeders and other hay feeding infrastructure, Lach McKenzie tried Bale Up Feeders and was immediately impressed. So much so, Lach made contact with the manufacturer and McKenzie Ag Services is now a proud distributer of Bale Up Feeders. Offering square bale feeders for sheep and cattle, Bale Up Feeders have the capacity for three bales. The bales sit inside a cradle which is mounted above a corrugated iron dome shaped floor, which enables rainfall to infiltrate through the Hay and then drain off. This, in conjunction with the surrounding sheet metal wall, ensures that Hay does not spoil, is not pulled from the feeder and spread around the paddock, and results in very little waste.
Lach has also worked closely with various manufacturers of self-feeders to determine the best possible design for a range of feeding applications. From low volume limit-lick feeders to bulk ad-lib commodity feeders, McKenzie Ag Services can advise on the most suitable feeder for your application.
Custom Feeding & Design
Custom Feeding provides an opportunity to have your cattle finished on grain (or grain-free if required) without needing to have the feeding infrastructure, feeding expertise or labour on your own farm. Custom Feeding is an excellent way to capitalise on the opportunity that arises in times of high prime stock prices.
McKenzie Ag Services offers Custom Feeding at our two properties in Western Victoria. We also have access to Custom Feeding in the Riverina and in northern Victoria. Our Custom Feeding clients simply send us the cattle and we take care of the rest.
Our Custom Feeding services include:
-
Cattle induction. Induction protocol is agreed with the client prior to cattle receival, but usually includes RFID scan and transfer, weighing, drench, management tag and any required vaccinations. Clients are provided with an induction file which details individual RFID and Tag number, together with corresponding weight.
-
Cattle procurement and marketing. We can assist in sourcing feeder cattle if required, and have access to offtake contacts for when the cattle are finished.
-
Feed management. We ensure cattle are fed rations that are formulated to maximise weight gain whilst minimising cost of gain.
-
Management Reports. Our Custom Feeding clients receive regular management reports, which summarise feed intake, animal health and performance.
Please contact us at anytime if you would like further information on Custom Feeding.
